It is my honour to present the 2015 annual report and programme of Prinshof School.

The school started in 2015 with huge renovations taking place. The GDE, together with DID, is currently on a two-year project to renovate the school … what a JOURNEY!

We had to learn very quickly the jargon and job descriptions of civil and electrical engineers as well as architects, site managers, subcontractors, etc. Every two weeks we had site meetings, and during weekends and holidays there is never a quiet moment at Prinshof School! We are very proud to say that Kiewiet Hostel, kitchen and TV room and one-third of the school building were completed. It looks lovely with the new bathrooms, classrooms, corridors, etc.

I would like to praise each and every educator and learner who had been inconvenienced during this period. Many challenges had to be faced when hostel study rooms had to be adapted to serve as classrooms and learners had to find their way around to reach the right venue that changed every three months.

We are delighted that a 2,4 m precast wall surrounding the school premises has been approved and will be built in 2016.

We are also proud about the appointment of two deputy principals, Ms C Maree and Ms D van der Merwe. New temporary staff - Ms A Pansegrouw, Ms L Yssel en Ms T Mokoena - were also appointed.

At the beginning of the year Prinshof School received an award - BEST PERFORMING SCHOOL in the Tshwane West District for the past 10 years! At the end of 2015 the Grade 12 learners achieved a 100% pass rate. This has been achieved for the past 20 years!

In August we were very fortunate to participate in the 5th Braille Cup Competition held in Africa, the first to be held in South Africa.

Schools for visually impaired in our country participated. Prinshof School was awarded 1st prize in all categories as well as being the BEST IN SOUTH AFRICA. Adjucators from abroad were in awe by the performance of our learners.

During the year we received many visitors, colleagues and persons with whom we established partnerships. I am privileged to serve on committees of LSEN schools that participate in commenting on matters of policies concerning LSEN schools and learners. Our school is considered as a valuable RESOURCE school with the skills to assist people with interests in Visual Impairment.

The communication to change the entrance of the school is still under way with various role players. I would like to thank you, the parents, for your response in the survey regarding our plea to move the entrance of the school into Soutpansberg Road.
